A/N: I wrote this in answer to a poetry challenge to write something using
the words seagull, black, steel, castle, September, flames, and
lonely. It's not specifically L/G, but I think you can tell they
inspired it.
The king's new castle now stands strong
Where smithing stone I labored long
To work for my people a wonder
On the ashes of what we have lost
Let none of us dwell on the cost
September's moon has waxed and waned
As royal thanks new lands I've gained
A green and golden country
Sheltered by proud stones
A tough land with strong bones
But overhead a seagull flies
That with its wavering, windborne cries
Awakes in my love a longing
And his heart turns 'twards the sea
His heart turns away from me
My roots within this world run deep
My kin, entombed in mountain keep
Did long ago by their labor
Turn flames and steel to their will
The mines call my heart still
But love commands my heart away
And to the shore my feet do stray
Where a lonely ship is waiting
And my smiling lover stands
Reaching out to take my hands
the end
