Summary: Gimli POV. Musing on the things that mean most to him.
A/N:
His life revolved among three things.
The fight. He was, after all, like all of his kind, a warrior in his heart. Whether he warred against the rocks or against the orcs, he warred. It was as natural as breathing and as comfortable as sleep.
Gold. The most pure, most precious of minerals to be found in Middle Earth. It was like nothing else produced in nature, or so he had long believed, until he had reached his third great love.
Beauty. And, perhaps more disturbingly, elves. There was no way to think of one and exclude the other. Elves were alien, lofty, snobbish and, above all else, beautiful in a way that no other creature was. They were intoxicating and poisonously addicting.
Beauty brought him back to gold. Gold was beautiful, incredibly so, and he had once believed that nothing could ever match it.
Then, he had met the Lady.
Galadriel.
Carved from moon silver, with a tumbling waterfall of golden tresses, that would forever out shine the gold he compared them to. To call them gold was to do them in justice.
He had watched those locks for a long time, and then, when they had all separated and moved on from Lothlórien, he had sworn he would never see their equal.
Only, he had. He had seen the equal, and it had been in front of him all along.
Long, silky and shining like spun gold. Not the fragile gold of the Lady, but burnished, tough, not the ethereal gold of the Lady.
Real. Tangible.
He loved three things above all else. Fighting, gold and beauty.
And he'd found all three in one damnable elf.
